For those of you who have played with mod podge, transfer gel is different in that it provides a means of transferring the actual image, so your end result is just a picture with little to no paper remaining on the piece.
Fusion Transfer Gel is clear, quick drying with a matte finish, ideal for transferring printed images onto wood, paper or other non-oily or greasy, porous surfaces like Dish towels or pillows.
Using an image printed from a laser printer works best. The Graphics Fairy has great free printable images for these projects as well as Pinterest. Download what you like onto a flashdrive, then take it to a Staples or Office Depot type store for your images to be printed from a laser printer. If you plan to used transfer gel on a surface that is painted a color other than white, the underlying color will be visible. If you’re going to use Fusion™ Transfer Gel for signs or anything with wording, you must remember to reverse your image prior to printing. If you were to forget this step, your wording would wind up backwards.
Fusion Transfer Gel is recommended for interior applications.
Directions:Transfer images using a laser prints. Apply transfer gel to the surface.
Place printed image face down into the wet gel, press out air bubbles and allow to dry.
When completely dry (6-12 hrs.), dampen the paper with a wet sponge allowing the water to penetrate the paper pulp.
Carefully rub with a soft cloth or nylon scouring pad (for a weathered look) to remove the paper but leave the image intact. Continue to finish as desired with paints, glazes, washed, metallic tints, you name it!
